From the desk of Dr Nandita Shah

Over the years, we are constantly conditioned by our society. We are moulded on how to behave and what to do. We are compared with others. While this has a good side because it pushes us to reach our highest potential, it can also be detrimental because of the self-criticism it fosters.

We are bombarded with advertisements that reinforce this belief. We are told that if we buy cosmetics we can look better. Or if we learn more we can earn more and have more. Or we can lose weight and be more attractive or that we can eat more animal products and be stronger. Or we can have more beautiful clothes and look better etc etc. When a lie is repeated often enough it takes the form of truth in our mind. And even if we know that money cannot buy happiness because we have seen the rich and famous commit suicide or fall into depression; we still fall into that trap.

Advertising appeals to those who already have low self-esteem and our culture works to lower our self esteem in order that we buy more. It is time we step out of this. Valentine’s Day is a day of love. Why not start practising being your best Valentine. Do you love your body enough to give it the very best all the time in terms of food, exercise, and rest? If you do, your body will return the favour and be a willing instrument for a higher purpose in life.

‘I fell in love with myself’ – Jinal Shah

Mumbai based  entrepreneur Jinal Shah’s life changed after she joined the Six Weeks to Health Gain & Weight Loss program in 2017.

Actually I can say I evolved into a better human – more conscious about nature and environment, more health conscious, more confident and more loving after following the SHARAN way.

I had no health issues when I joined the program, but I was curious to learn more, since health was my priority. I am a Jain, but after joining the program, I understood that dairy is real hinsa (cruelty). The recipes taught in the program made it so much easier not to miss dairy. Now my morning tea is replaced with the yummy green smoothie which is so power-packed that I am more energetic at work. In spite of being a working woman, I am happy that I can easily make the right choices in food. It has been four years that I have been following this and it’s so sustainable.

I have also noticed that my confidence level has increased. People do ask me, “what have you done? You are looking prettier and are so energetic.” All my staff and  friends get inspired and are always curious to know about my lifestyle, food habits and more. The smoothies and salads are in demand in my office!

I am really thankful to SHARAN, its mentors Reyna Rupani and Rose Pinto and all the loving souls who explain so well about the whole food plant based diet and its importance. Not only through the six weeks program but till date, they help and guide us with yummy recipes and are connected with us through Whatsapp. I strongly recommend all to join SHARAN sessions and experience an evolved version of themselves.

It’s all about loving yourself

There is a tremendous connection between our health and how we feel about ourselves. How we behave with each other is a reflection of how we feel about ourselves. If we could all start loving ourselves, we may actually start an epidemic of health!

Many of us believe that we are worthy of love only when we lose weight or get a great job or a partner. However if you don’t love yourself today, then you are unlikely to love yourself tomorrow, as the reasons never end. Loving oneself is a choice one can make today. Embrace yourself, forgive and heal, for a beautiful healthy life awaits you.

Read on for some tips on how to get you loving the most important being in your life – yourself

1. Make a list

Yes, take out a pen and a paper and write down at least 25 good things about you and stick it in a place where you can see it regularly.

2. Check your inner voice

Get aware of what you say to yourself. It’s too important to ignore. Would you allow anyone to tell you – you are useless, good-for-nothing, ugly, fat or more? Then why do you say it to yourself?

3. Accept yourself

Each one of us is special in our own way. You don’t have to do what others are doing. Celebrate your own uniqueness.

4. Distance yourself from those who bring you down

Your friends in life should motivate, inspire and respect you.  Check your circle. Who are you listening to?

5. Forgive your past self

It’s over! Let it go…

6. Be Grateful

One who is grateful, is never unhappy.

7. Take out time for yourself

Do something everyday that you love – cook a new dish, cycle, read a book, watch that movie, indulge in a puzzle, go to the garden, paint, get a massage….so many options!

8. Learn something new

Explore new ideas through activities, books, groups, initiatives etc.

9. Believe in yourself

Everything is possible!  You just have to believe it.

10. Loosen up

Smile, laugh, enjoy… don’t take everything so seriously.

11. Be loving and kind to others

What you give out, comes back to you…

12. Be on a healthy diet

Have green smoothies, lots of organic fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid junk…
