From the desk of Dr Nandita Shah

November 14th is World Diabetes Day. This day was created in 1991 in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes. Today, 30 years later, the rates continue to rise. Diabetes can adversely affect all organs – the eyes, heart, nerves, skin etc. It even causes erectile dysfunction in men. Most of these complications can be resolved as diabetes heals.

The good news is that most cases of diabetes can be healed permanently! I have just returned from our 21-Day Health Retreat where a number of participants with diabetes were able to stop all or nearly all diabetes medications in just 3 weeks! SHARAN can help people with diabetes in different ways to do this. My book – Reversing Diabetes in 21-Days explains the process in great detail and  we also have a 21-Day Online Diabetes Reversal Program for those who prefer audio-visual methods. We have our team of doctors who can support and guide you till you are medicine free. And we have cooking classes so that you will not miss any of your favourite foods as you heal. We also regularly have talks and workshops on the subject.

SHARAN’s vision is a diabetes free world, and we hope that a day will come soon when World Diabetes Day becomes obsolete. If you still suffer from high blood sugar, allow us to help you make this problem history.

If you or family member has diabetes join us for a FREE TALK – Diabetes can be Reversed with SHARAN founder Dr Nandita Shah and learn about the simple steps that you can start taking to reverse your diabetes.

True causes of diabetes

Most people try to control diabetes by cutting out sugar or carbohydrates. However this does not solve the problem. To get rid of diabetes we should remove all the possible causes of diabetes or insulin resistance which are as follows:

1. Diabetes is a hormonal problem

It is linked to other hormonal problems such as hypothyroid, PCOD, infertility, or vitamin D imbalance. When one hormone goes out of balance, the others can be affected.

2. Foods

All animal products are likely to be high in hormones. Non-organic plant foods may contain hormones too, while hormonal medications like steroids, oral contraceptives or even medicines for fertility could contribute as well.

3. Fat

Fat stored inside the muscles cells causes insulin resistance. Therefore, we must reduce all fats without fibre – oil, ghee, butter, and animal products including dairy and eggs – as they too are full of fat.

4. Lack of fibre

Only plants have fibre although refined and processed plant foods also lack fibre. Fibre holds on to fat and flushes it out of the body. We should eat more whole plant based foods.

5. Chemicals

These are hormone disruptors – medications, personal care products (soaps, shampoos, hair dyes, deodorants, toothpaste, hand sanitisers, perfumes, makeup etc), home care products (incense, air fresheners, detergents, pest control, phenyl etc), non-organic fruits and vegetables and other foods, readymade products, plastics, artificial sweeteners all have chemicals that can impact your condition.

6. Dairy

Dairy and its derivatives contain fat, no fibre, hormones, chemicals (pesticides, PCBs, urea, antibiotics, adulterants). Dairy is therefore a leading cause of diabetes.  It is also packed with hormones.

7. Stress

This is often the precipitating cause of diabetes. Check your levels each time you are stressed or sick – you will be surprised to see how blood sugar shoots up.

8. Lack of exercise

Exercise helps reduce stress by increasing serotonin and endorphins. It also helps to burn fat. Choose a form of exercise that you truly enjoy.

9. Lack of Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a hormone and unfortunately almost everyone in urban areas suffers from a lack of it. It is important to regularly check the levels of this hormone, and supplement if necessary.

10. Beverages

Tea, coffee, colas, alcohol, and sweetened drinks raise blood sugar levels and should be completely avoided.
