From the desk of Dr Nandita Shah

In our modern day culture we are washing all the time. Most of us take showers every day and some of us take more than one. Each one comes with its share of soap and shampoo. The body naturally coats the skin with a layer of fat to protect it. But we keep washing this off. And then we apply lotions and creams. We do the same to our hair. Harsh shampoos followed by conditioners. And after the shower, deodorants because without them we stink!

Imagine doing it another way. Cleaning from inside by eating right so that odour is not a problem. Washing only when needed and that too with warm water and a wash cloth. Applying only edible oil on dry skin because the skin is able to absorb it. Watching your skin glow so that no cosmetics are required!

With all the advertisements that we are inundated with, it’s hard to think different. But given the facts, would you be willing to try?

Cosmetics from your Kitchen

Nature has it all….it is us who fail to discover. Read about some simple and easy tricks to add the outward sheen that a good diet can easily bring about! But being creatures of habit, till you reach a state where you will only trust your diet, better to go with these for sure!

1) Beets for a blush and lipstick! Simply run a slice of freshly cut beet on the lips or cheeks! Or dab with cold-pressed coconut oil and apply.

2) Avocados for an anti-wrinkle treatment. Just mash the flesh right below the avocado’s skin, and apply around the wrinkle-prone area!

3) Rose-water is a great skin toner.

4) Sea-salt works well to remove the excess oil from your hair and bring in some volume. Just gently rub it into your scalp!

5) Fresh aloe-vera gel can help with skin burns.

The Ultimated Skin Care

Did you know that in 2016, it has been estimated that the global skin care industry will reach USD 121 billion! And the demand from a far more younger age group has fuelled this trend. In a new research it is also found that 82% of skin care and cosmetic advertising claims are false!

At SHARAN we do not advise external applications – so no creams, oils, moisturisers, lotions, cosmetics etc. They all come with their share of toxins and chemicals. The skin absorbs these chemicals, and this can cause harm. Real skincare comes from within. Your skin reflects your state of health. Thus there is no need to head to the nearest cosmetic store or a beauty parlour for a quick fix, simply walk into an organic farmers market or store….and voila you have both health and beauty at your finger-tips!

Read about the foods that will take care of your skin…..

1. Orange-red vegetables – are full of beta-carotene which convert into Vitamin A in our bodies. The Vitamin A acts an an anti-oxidant and prevents cell damage and premature ageing.

2. Green leafy vegetables – provide nutrients which help produce more fresh new cells by getting rid of the old ones. They reduce dryness and keeps one face look young and bright.

3. Fruits – all of them share a special place in skin-care because of their phytonutrients!

4. Almonds, pistachios and walnuts – are not only a good source of Omega 3, but especially almonds also have Vitamin E which helps the skin hold in moisture, making it look younger!

5. Water – The simplest way to keep your skin hydrated is through water which makes it look plump and nice

6. Seeds – Flax seeds are a secret to flawless skin and healthy shiny hair. Sesame seeds are skin protectors. Sunflower seeds keep the skin healthy.
