Testimonial of Dr Rajul Shah

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDSLhmahsiY

Dr Rajul Shah attended SHARAN’s Six Weeks Health & Weight Loss program in Mumbai, and now prescribes the same to her patients too!

When we are ready for change, it happens! It happened to me with great success following the whole plant based food concept. My weight reduced by 6 kgs in six months. The reduction of extra fat around the abdomen and overall body without any specific exercise is just a miracle! I am also enjoying the real taste of food without oil and ghee. Plus it’s quite easily manageable on vacations and travels too. The best part is that I can eat as much as I feel like and still there is no weight gain. It’s all thanks to the loads of recipes and inspiration by the team.

Our patients who are following the whole plant based concept have shown improvement in cholesterol levels and high BP, acidity, digestion related issues. I see a new door opened up for creative way of eating and life style

Why Say No to White?

White is pure, white is awesome….but when it comes to food, the magic is in the cauliflower, onions, garlic, mushrooms, cabbage, parsnips and radish alone, as Nature has made them white. But when humans refine and make food ‘white’, that’s where the trouble begins.

Refining and processing food removes the much needed fibre, nutrients and adds in the chemicals that our bodies can easily do without. Also we tend to over-eat man-made whites as they are less satisfying than natural food.

So find below a ‘white’ check-list to ‘black out’ with options provided, so that you have your dishes and make them healthy too!

1. White Sugar

Known as ‘heroin’ of the food industry, it’s no wonder it’s the toughest one to break off from. However, once you do it, you will not enjoy having it at all, and find it extra-sweet! And you needn’t give up on your sweet stuff, all you need to do is replace the sugar with dates, raisins or figs. Bananas beautifully reduce sugar cravings too. Be the boss of your body…win the sugar battle!

2. White Flour

This is basically wheat flour stripped of two main components – the bran (which provides the fibre) and the germ. It is heavily processed and raises your risk for diabetes as well as other preventable diseases. So go for ‘100% whole-wheat’ or other flour breads (tip – the denser the bread the better), cakes, pastas, cookies etc.

3. White Milk

This is Nature’s food given to the mother to feed to her babies so that they can grow. Human moms feed human babies and cows feed calves! So basically we are drinking another mammal’s milk and growing unhealthier by the day! Also the dairy milk that we get is highly adulterated and filled with growth hormones, toxins, antibiotics, pus and bacteria. Replace with nut-milks, soy-milk, peanut milk, coconut milk. Every single thing that contains dairy can be made with these!

4. Egg-whites

The result of a hen’s menstrual cycle, eggs have bacteria-filled toxins whether they are organic, free-range or pastured. Plus there is a lot of unimaginable cruelty involved in the procurement of eggs. Albumin in egg-whites is known to trigger various allergies too. Also egg whites cause depletion of biotin, which is a B vitamin, necessary to maintain healthy hair, skin and nails. There is nothing that egg-whites can offer you that other plant-based foods can’t! Replace eggs with tofu, flax seeds and chia seeds.

5. Semolina

That is simply refined wheat and should be avoided as much as possible. Replace with millets and you can make delicious upmas, dhoklas and idlis from them.

6. White Oats

The quick cooking oats are refined and processed and should be avoided. The best would be to pick up steel-cut oats, where the whole grain inner portion is cut into pieces, or go in for whole rolled oats.

7. White Rice

Stripped off the fibre and nutrients, white rice has minimal nutritional value and is cleaned up in solutions to make it look nice and white! It also contains arsenic, which is a highly toxic mettalic compound, which plays a role in development of certain diseases, including type 2 diabetes. Simply replace with brown rice or millets!

8. White Salt

The amount of salt you eat has a direct effect on your blood pressure. And a raised blood pressure is the major factor which causes strokes and heart failures, apart from other diseases from high-salt intake. Small amount of salt is needed, so go for the natural ones, like rock-salt or sea-salt….not the refined and bleached ones you get in most stores.

9. Corn-flour

White and refined, cornflour is full of calories and could be made from GMO corn. But the good news is that it can be easily replaced by making brown rice flour at home. Simply grind raw brown rice!
