ABOUT US HEALTH PROGRAMMES RECIPES RESOURCES

From the desk of Dr Nandita Shah

Almost all of us grew up on dairy products. Many of us grew up on readymade and packaged foods. Some of us grew up eating body parts of animals. And some of us still eat these things. We have been conditioned to eat by the industries that want to sell. We are being brainwashed by advertisements.

I often tell people that if you want to eat healthy then make a list of all the foods that are advertised and don’t eat those. No business will spend good money telling us what we already know through our instincts. That’s why we don’t see advertisements for carrots and cucumbers but we do see advertisements for milk, eggs, chicken and even potato chips.

If we walk into a farm or orchard, we instinctively feel like picking and eating the fruits and vegetables and even the beans. But when we see the chickens, goats and cows, our mouths do not water. Because of our conditioning, seeing animal products cooked may tickle our tastebuds though!

If we want to look after our bodies, we should only put into our mouths what nature designed for us to consume. We should check every food for whether it is worthy of our body or not. The question is do we love ourselves enough to do that?

Wishing you a Happy Valentines Day!

Loving Yourself in Practice

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYHBh4Dia08

Watch this short video about SHARAN founder Dr Nandita Shah who is a wonderful example of loving yourself. She left Mumbai to stay in Auroville to be closer to nature. She is working continuously towards health, animals and the environment too. She inspires people to love and heal their bodies through food. And as one walks this path, compassion for animals and a genuine concern for nature and environment is also felt.

Letter to your body by Sheetal

In one of our Six Weeks to Health & Weight Loss sessions, we encourage participants to write a letter to their body. We never think about our body within. We generally focus on the exterior. This powerful exercise helps one value and love one’s body. Thirty eight year old Sheetal Keswani, who attended the program shares her letter

After going on a whole  plant based diet , my life has become more beautiful and meaningful. I am feeling very calm, peaceful, light and energetic. I have started loving myself and my body. This diet has truly helped me in losing eleven kilos until now, and I am fully sure that I will reach my goal one day. It’s just that I have to put the right fuel in my body and the body heals itself…

This is the letter that I had written to my body in the six weeks program. It was truly an exercise of realisation. I actually understood that I am nothing in this world without the body. I realised that the body is a temple and we need to keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside.

Dear Body,

You are amazing , wonderful and know exactly what you are doing. You take care of everything in me and for which I am very grateful. You are so strong and have carried me from my breath till now.

There are times when I have ignored you and shown disrespect and not realised your existence. I am sorry for not treating you well all these years. Now, I have realised your true importance and  value. I promise you that, from now onwards I will take care of you always and will do and give the best you deserve.

You are the only one which cannot be REPLACED, so you are of infinite value . From now, I promise to listen to you, give love and embrace you.

Sincerely
Sheetal . M . Keswani
